All About Beagles

The Beagle is a kind of Scenthound. This is an old dog breed, which was founded 2500 years ago. The modern Beagle comes from England. It was founded in the 19th century to facilitate the hunting of hares, rabbits, foxes, fish and wild birds. Beagle is still very popular and is often used as a hunting dog, but thanks to its friendly personality, medium size and beautiful appearance it is also one of the most popular pets in the world. The Beagle is the 5th most popular dog breed in America.

  • The Beagle can be 13 to 16 inches tall and 20 to 25 pounds heavy.
  • The Beagle has a smooth coat that is usually white, black and light brown. Some types of Beagle are colored black, white, brown, red, yellowish or bluish. All pure-bred Beagles have white fur in the tail (white tip or at least a few white hairs near the tip).
  • The Beagle has a dome-shaped skull, a square muzzle, long, flabby ears, a small to a medium-sized muscular body and a long, slightly wavy tail.
  • The first type of beagle, Pocket Beagle, was very small, only 8 to 9 inches high. Due to selective breeding, whose goal was to create a large hunting dog, Pocket Beagle no longer exists.
